Ok, it took a little extra fiddling with the computer this morning, but it's all worked out now and the comic should be showing. Yay computers!
Yes, that's us behind the counter. MoJo's is my fantasy coffee shop of "If I win the lotto, I'm opening my own cafe and it will be amazing." Yes, you will absolutely see us acting out the fantasies we have about work that we would be fired for doing at actual work. Like clubbing the guy who called me "Hey, you!" yesterday over the head with my milk pitcher.

Genius gleaned from life. You see, at the shop, we often are more likely to remember someone by their drink than know their name. So we refer to people with things like "depth charge with hazelnut," or "small skim extra hot dry capp girl." If someone starts describing a customer and we don't know who they're talking about, a description of their usual drink often does the trick.

My favorite is "skim latte, 140 degrees with a shot of 2%". It's so silly
Quad venti caramel macchiato? That sounds a bit like Starbucks there. Shame. Have you ever tried a real macchiato? You should try a place that has good espresso. It's makes an amazing difference.

Ok, my starbucks machiatto conspiracy theory:
A REAL Machiatto is shot(s) of espresso with a spoonful of milk foam on top. Like a capp without milk. It's not a large beverage, and its VERY strong, and not at all sweet. So why would starbucks name one of their flagship drinks, which is milky, sweet, topped with whipped cream, etc, after this beverage when they are not at all similar?
My theory is that they did it on purpose. Because starbucks is SO big, people are familiar with what they name their products. How many times a day do we get people wanting frapps or ording with rediculous made up sizing terminology? ALL the time.
So someone goes to starbucks and gets their caramel machiatto. They like it (as much as starbucks coffee can be liked, anyway, as it tastes bad). Then they go to a coffee shop that serves a REAL machiatto and when they get it, its strong, not sweet, and the large drink they order fits into a small cup.
EW! If you like your drinks really sweet and milky, you won't like it. And they think to themselves, "this is gross! Starbucks machiatto is MUCH better than this!" And they go back to starbucks.
That's my theory.
Also, Mr Marine: Just because there are no indy places, can't you look for another chain? One that's not so gross? Look for a Biggbys. They're pretty good. Einstein bagel serves coffee and coffee drinks. I've never had their coffee, but it's got to be better than starbucks. MACDONALDS specialty coffee is better than starbucks. Search your options!

There is an Einsteins coffee shop forty feet away from my Political Science computer lab and I go there all the time, I didn't know it was indy. They have good Joe (though I usually get it with a small amount of local honey). Whether or not I can find one, I am going to take it as a personal challenge to find another coffee shop near me. If what I am drinking is not a macchiaddo (spelling?) then I feel I should have one how it is supposed to taste. But I must confess, I like sugery coffee so maybe if I don't like the real macchiado (please stand up) you could suggest a drink for me ?

Oh no, Einstein's isn't indie. We're not saying you MUST go indie if you want a good cup of coffee. It's just that Starbuck's coffee isn't very good. There are other corporate coffee chains that have much better coffee (we both work for one of them). And it's not about Starbuck's being "evil". It's just that they don't have quality coffee and the shame is that most people don't bother trying other places enough to realize this.
But yes, if you like really sweet drinks, a real macchiato would not be for you unless you want to just load it up with sugar. Most other places can make an equivilant drink I think if you ask for it correctly. The difference isn't the sugar though. It's the quality of the espresso which makes a huge difference.

maybe one of yall can help me then. I like coffee and tea. And I like sugar. Cream I usually request not to have put in, but in certain cases it can make a drink taste good.
Some examples of drinks I like are Thai Tea, Milk Tea, a "starbucks macchiado", and those caramel frapaccino thingies.
Any suggestions of what I should ask a non-starbucks franchise for ?

Most places will be able to help you out if you ask what their equivalent to a starbucks macchiato is. Or just look through their menu for something that prominantly features caramel.
Biggest advice? READ THE MENU. It will describe the drinks. Then ask intelligent questions about what you have read, or advice from the people at the counter. Few things are as annoying as people who wander up to the counter and start blathering about "do you have anything that's like like this, but with that, or some other thing I can't even describe because I'm not very bright?" When all they needed to do was LOOK at the menu for a moment.
Good employees love to answer intelligent questions and offer suggestions about their products. We HATE when people ask stupid questions, because we're not allowed to respond to them with "Can you seriously not see what is right in front of your face? How do you manage to dress yourself?"
