So Lore and I have been looking at our stats, reveling in all the hits the comic has been getting. But we are confused.
One of our major referrers on the site is something called Gaia Online. Following the link just takes us to our own page with a redirect url. Looking at the site, it appears to be an online community with a lot of anime/manga overtones. Neither of us really know what it is, and we REALLY don't know how people are getting to our comic through it.
anybody have any clues?

I actually still don't know, but in my curiosity, I went and signed up for an account. It's kinda silly but if we get more links from it, it may be from me now, since I put our link on there. Sorry, since that doesn't help explain the mystery.

Gaia Online is the MySpace of anime forums: everyone's on it and they're all idiots.
I used to be a member way back when it was small. The idea is this: instead of the standard 100x100 icon or what have you, your avatar is a pixel doll. Posting and other activities earn you fake money which you can spend on shiny new hats and clothes and fairy wings for your doll.
Of course, all the really shiny stuff is super expensive, so you have people spamming or posting whatever inane thing they can think of to get some quick gold.
As artists, you two could probably earn money there easily (users pay significant amounts of gold for pictures of their avatars, "pets" and other trinkets), but I say avoid the place. Pick a noob stereotype: the Hot Topic goth, the person who claims a fictional character as a spouse, the 13 year old giving sex advice. They're all there -- by the thousands. The userbase might actually make you dumber.

I didn't look around it too much, but it did seem pretty...silly. Not my cup of tea. But one of the ladies who got the most excited about the comic at the con is a member, and she's spread the comic about to her friends there. We get a lot of traffic from the site, so personally, go you, gaia online!

It's pretty interesting. I don't like anime nearly as much. But it's worth it to be a member to spread the word about the comic a bit.

Speaking of game forums, do any of you play City of Heroes? That forum community would probably eat this comic up. I know I do.

I WANT to play City of Heroes but don't have the computer POWER it takes to do so. Sigh. But that's a great idea!

I'll link it on the board there, and see if that helps.

No problem. I just checked the thread and here are some comments so far: The_Britisher: I don't read anything with Girls as Superheroes. That's just unrealistic. Mantid: Heeheehee It has promise. Encharger: I demand fishnet ninjas. [he means, as a power set] Lei_Long: Poor Val... See, I knew they'd like it I'll bump the post tomorrow. So, how do you guys spread the word on this comic? Other forums, like you did with QC?

I'm a member of Gaia Online; I have been since January 2006. I enjoy it immensely since I have many friends on there and we have discussions on many of the boards. If you want to avoid the hoards of noobs I suggest staying out of the General Discussion forum, the Chatterbox forum, and the Welcoming forum. Those are where are the insane random posting takes place and where trolls are very notorious for being. Plus, a lot of people who frequent Gaia Online do enjoy Sidekick Girl. I've been tempted to make a guild on there for it. I know there is one for Questionable Content.

I learned very VERY quickly to stay out of the general forums but I joined a webcomic guild and a Firefly guild. However, they both seem fairly inactive. Ha! A guild for Sidekick Girl. That'd be fuggin' sweet!

they certainly seem to toss the word gay around quite a bit. And not in the "gay people are awesome!" or "I love gay people!" or "gay men are so hott!" sort of way either.
