I was getting ready to go to class (it was my metal smithing class at Wayne State) and my mom knocked on my door and told me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I didn't quite understand what she was saying at first. I couldn't even picture what building she was talking about until I went downstairs and watched the TV coverage.
It was shocking and confusing and scary and I didn't know what to do or think, so I went to class. Everyone on campus was standing around, talking in small groups, crying. I got to the workshop and most of the class had also shown up. When my professor got there, we just sat around and talked about what was happening and what it could mean.
I also specifically remember that I had my head shaved back then because I remember wearing a bright red bandana on my head. That's a random memory.

Do you try not to be too relevant with the comic? In other words, what if the real world of today encroaches the comic?

A read through the archive will show which comics reflect real world social issues. It is not possible for the real world to "encroach" upon the comic because we decide everything that goes into it, therefore everything that is in it is there because we want it to be.
