Yes, and we need to consider the defectors. Whenever a military is ordered to turn its guns on the citizens, especially one as civilized as ours, then there will be some who refuse the order, claiming it's not a lawful order. Those people will be forced to choose a side. It's not too far of a stretch to figure that some of the military would actually join the revolutionaries.

You know, there's something important to keep in mind when you talk about everyone being armed and the idea of an armed revolution. As a former History major I can say that most revolutions end badly, even when the rebels do win. Think of France, or Somalia, for instance. Also, when everyone is armed it's really easy to have vigilante justice. Remember the wild west? Don't trust the movies, it was a scary place. While we're on that subject, Mexico's scary murder rate is fueled by guns shipped south from the US. I honestly don't know the answer, mainly because both sides scare the bejeezuz out of me.

I feel like I'm the new kid on the block here, and it's kind of cool. I think we should go step by step here : Why do we want less guns? To prevent murder and crime. Okay. Why do we have those? Because some people and insane or irresponsible enough to think there is a good reason to take someones life. Do they really need guns ? Makes it easier to kill people if you have a colt1911 in your pocket, but you can use just about anything to get the job done. Maybe we should focus on the people using guns. Why do they kill? Can we stop them before they become criminals? What do they kill for? Why do they have to kill to have it? Why am I asking so many questions? ... You know what, forget it. Let's just ban guns, I'm feeling lazy.
I'll give something special to the person who find the music reference in that post.

Yeah, lets get all the guns out of peoples hands, we'll be all good then....until criminals buy black market guns and still kill people, while good honest citizens are s*** out of luck.
Basic rule here genius. Just because you make something illegal doesn't mean you stop people from getting it. Ban alchohol? BOOM. illegal bars all over the city and organize crime rises. Ban pot? BOOM. drug dealers fill the streets to supply their customers and kill anyone who tries to stop them. What do you think will happen if they ban guns?
its a basic idea: banning guns = criminals still have guns while citizens are left defenseless.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people...with bullets fired out of guns! (And sometimes with knives.) (Or cars. Lots of car-related killings.) (Oh, and blunt instruments. Yep, plenty o' those.) (And viruses. Yep, people kill other people by giving them viruses. Remember folks, when it comes to Ebola, "sharing is caring" is crap.) A Sword Never Kills, It Is A Tool In The Hands Of A Killer - Seneca the Younger, First Century CE. Not a new sentiment.... I just wish that as much effort went into the licensing of guns as goes into the licensing of automobiles.... The Auld Grump

But if every American doesn't have a unrealistically huge secret stash of guns, ammo and medical supplies, where will we be come zombie apocalypse? *disappears under barrage of flame* Okay, I deserved that. As for my opinion, the only reason we need such stringent rules about freedom (a contradiction of terms, surely?) is because of human nature - due to government structure and the fact that you can rely on there being a high proportion of stupid/gullible/misguided people in the population, there have to be rules about changing the rules in case a really persuasive evil guy comes along twirling his hypothetical goatee, and I understand that (phew, that sentence was way longer than it needed to be). But it's still annoying, even if it is unavoidable by anything other than some kind of mass mind control. Funny how small flaws in humanity can lead to big problems in the world not encompassed by small electrical pulses between neurons, or whatever it is. However, yes. Guns aren't a good idea, because when all's said and done they're just tools for killing people. Guns weren't invented to shoot wildfowl, after all. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense to anyone who's not me; I tried, really.
