Good to see that everyone behaved themselves while we were away. we had a good show. Lots of people took flyers and said they'd check out the comic and the forum, so hopefully we'll start seeing new "faces" around here soon. Welcome them! We also started our T shirt sales, and they did remarkably well, considering that no one at the convention that we talked to had read the comic before. More on the shirts later. So we are officially into Year Two of Sidekick Girl. Hopefully we'll continue to grow and improve, and all that good stuff. And maybe, just maybe, by next year, we'll be able to do more than one show.

Hi,
Uh, I'm one of those guys that had never heard of Sidekick Girl before, and said I'd check it out. I kept my word and am thrilled I did. Very funny with a dash of cute here and there.
The charming young lady behind the table, I'll assume it was Lore, had a little sign that said quick sketches for $5.00, and that's what actually got my attention. I went out of my way to get plenty of sketches over the weekend, and I've shown my sketchbook around, and several people at the store (Kokomo Comics) that I manage have said how much they dug my "quick" sketch compared to ones that took much longer and cost much more.
I don't wear t-shirts, but the whole table looked well done and the art that was displayed was eye catching. Now, that I know about the strip, and have caught up on the entire thing I'll definately be checking out your table and saying howdy at the next convention I see you at as well as checking out the comic site every week or so.
If you wan't I'd be happy to pass out flyers or cards to my customers at the shop. I don't know that Sidekick Girl would be everyones cup of tea, but I'm sure we can get a few customers to check it out.
Thanks for the sketch and opening up the world of Sidekick Girl. It's a great piece of work and I've dug it so far.
Now, I haven't gone and checked out all the other strips AGAIN, but I didn't know off the top of my head if Val is REALLY left handed or if she were using her incredible acting skills to dupe Dr. Wright, and I was curious which was the case.
Thanks again,

Oh yay! You signed up for the forum! That seriously makes me so happy. I told so many people to sign up for the forum to get some fresh faces. I'm glad you did.
I'm also glad you liked the sketches. I was thinking I should probably charge more than $5, since I never really just do a "quick" sketch. I tend to do a finished sketched if I have the time, just because I really want it to be nice. But $5 is pretty reasonable for an unknown artist, so I suppose I'll keep it.
And yeah, it would seriously rock if you wouldn't mind having some flyers at your store. Just let me know where it is and we can drop some off maybe?
Yes, Val is left handed. This was actually unintentional at first, as I drew her a few times using her left hand without really realizing it. I think we even came up with the Dr. Wright storyline before I even realized I was drawing Val left handed, but it works out.
So in general: yay! and welcome!

I made a few groovy discoveries at the con. I really dig Sidekick Girl, I fell in love with Mike White's Pigtails and Potbellies, and 0backbone had a strange little comic about an alien that was pretty humorous. Those were my three big finds at this years convention. I think the $5.00 sketch is undervalued, but I don't think I'd think of it as a the sketch your actually selling at this point. I'd think of it as a very effective advertising tool. It was the $5.00 sketch sign that attracted me to your table. Sidekick Girl is very fun, but at the time I just saw another small press looking group in artist alley...and they are EVERYWHERE! Your sketch price brought me in, got me to look over the stuff, chat with you in a very nice manner (not screaming BUY MY BOOK, GET MY BOOK, blah, blah, blah), and then led me over to your site where now I've book marked it. So, it's probably a loss leader item, but it worked on me. Also, fans who are already into your book will love the amazing bargain. Any promo material (cards, flyers, etc) can be sent to: S.D.Hilton courtesy of KOKOMO COMICS 1201 South 17th Street KOKOMO, INDIANA 46902 We are a legitimate bricks and mortar store that has been around for more than 25 years. We have had the same account with Diamond Comics since that point, and we can be found using the COMIC BOOK SHOP LOCATOR service. The previous info is just so that you know we are not some fly by night operation that's just hoping to score some free stuff (even if it's just flyers ) If you had the time, and this is no big deal at all, if you wanted to do an actual quick sketch I would post it up next to our register with our point of sale materials, put your flyers up with it (I'd wait till a Wednesday to do this which is our NEW COMIC DAY...YAYYY!), and then tell everyone to come here here and check out your site that they can enter to win the sketch (I'd tear mine out of my book, but I like it way too much to be that self sacrificing). You could start a thread that said SECRET CODE here or something, and then when they come into the store and tell me the code they get a ticket (which I would happily provide), and a week later or a few weeks I raffle off the sketch. You could do that sort of thing with other stores, or even at the conventions as well. It's just an idea so no big deal if it doesn't seem like the sort of thing you'd want to try. I'm looking forward to todays comic, and I'll tell people all about you guys today while I show all my customers my sketchbook. Be groovy

That's actually a pretty cool idea for a contest, and something that I think we'd be very interested in getting in on. But rather than a "Sketch," it would probably be an actual drawing, actually worked on by both of us.
Hi, I'm the other, not as charming girl that was on the other side of the Sidekick Girl booth. I make the colors.

Hi there Erika, I'm sorry if I didn't get a chance to speak with you at the convention. I spoke at length to a very nice young woman selling D&D stuff right next to the booth. I'd love to have ANYTHING that helps you guys...erhh gals...not sure which is the proper way to go with that one, either way, get the word out. I thought the quick sketch because if other shops want to jump on the bandwagone it would be easier to knock out more, but I would be quite happy and proud to offer up a great piece of art and make sure it got into a new fans hands. We usually give away variant covers, so an actual piece of art should be a HUGE hit. HI. I never heard of sidekick girl till the con. A print that Lore did of SKGirl 1st caught my eye, after that I check out the site and was hooked. When I've shown my sketchbook, everyone asks "who is sidekick girl and MAC." Thanks for the sketches and keep up the good work.

Horray! I'm so happy that people didn't just toss the flyers we were passing out. Thanks for stopping by and giving us a chance. Awfully glad you like it.

Woot, I was the D&D person. I have been noticed! It's hard at the con being a colorist, since its so much easier for the penciler to do all the sketches.

Ah, well, Howdy again. I bought a list of Inn foods and another little thing on characters. You had a great little adventure, but I'm not running any D&D right then...now there's talk of running the old D&D Red Box set in protest to 4th Ed. I fully understand how hard it is to sit at a convention if you're not the pencil slinger. The pencillers are definatley the lead singer and lead guitarist when it comes to artist alley, and everyone else is a bit like the road manager. I sat through a few hocking a comic I co-wrote...man it's ROUGH. "Are you the artist?" "YES, of WORDS." "Ohhh, you're not an artist." turns back and leaves. Do you ever lay down colors at the con? I'd happily get a sketch colored if you do old school colors at cons. Woot, I was the D&D person. I have been noticed! It's hard at the con being a colorist, since its so much easier for the penciler to do all the sketches.

Speaking of con... Lore... I'll send you the pictures I took as soon as decide to unload the pictures off my camera. Gotta keep a record of the con sketches you did... even if I didn't snap a picture of all of the them. Hey, and thanks for letting me hang around Gotta love the view of the con from the other side of the table.

No problem. It was super cool to have you there. That side of the table is definitely a different experience, ain't it?
