What I'm curious about is this; if Mackenzie was more...creative...in her naming of Val, what would it have been? Most superheroes and sidekicks have names that either reflect their powers, aspects of their personality, or, in the case of those without powers, their costumes(Iron man, Batman, etc.). For example, Spider-man has spider powers. Or Magneto has the power to manipulate magnetic fields. Or Wolverine, who is a short, mean guy.
So, what would Val have named herself, if it was up to her?

HEH i think if Mackenzie went more creative in naming Val as her sidekick, and went for the whole reflect my powers thing.. we'd have gotten something like "Glow Girl" or mabye "Bright Light" i jsut can't see Makenzie getting all that good at creating a name.. ^^;; sorry
Val naming herself.. now THAT is an intresting thought

I meant reflective of Val's powers. After all, Mackenzie has Illumina, which is indicative of her powers. I think a good name for her would be "Tank", because she performs that role for Illumina. Val takes all the damage while Mack stands back and looks pretty.

And also, since she's still growing (again, assuming here), wouldn't that mean that there is still time for her powers to evolve a bit? Well . . . Val is twenty-two. As it would make the most sense that power activation and growth would occur during the same time as physical growth (during puberty, a la mutation in the Marvel universe), she's mostly done maturing. Her powers won't get more powerful naturally. Of course that wouldn't stop her powers from growing if she encounters another supernatural or alien force. As for what Val would name herself . . . I kinda like Tank. It's hilarous because she so small.

It's also a gaming reference. The person will all the hit points that runs out in front and draws the fire so the wimpier mage or sorcerer can get his or her magic on. But yeah, I thought of the Matrix too.

"Glow Girl" or "Bright Light" (or even "Lightbright! Lightbright...turn on the magic of colored lights. . . wow, I think I just aged myself there.) Kinda of like the fact that Jasper's codename is Tornado Boy. But we never said anything about his powers being wind or elementally based. His hero is Cyclone and Cyclone named his sidekick Tornado Boy so that they were obviously a pair. To clarify: Jasper does not have tornado powers. And don't worry, his powers will be revealed very soon.

Some additional geeky incites from the what if series (2nd series) on how to kill wolverine. In what if xmen lost inferno he was destroyed by mystic flames that left only the skeleton. Also in what if wolverine had fought conan he was temporaraly killed by a mystic sword stroke to the neck. The sword broke on the spine, the neck wasn't completey severed, and wolverine died but did come back to life. It did however take additional time for his brain to come back fully as he was in an animal state due to damage from oxygen deprivation.

Oh yeah, with a enough love, care and thought, you can think of multiple ways to kill someone who is basically un-death-able. Just takes a little imagination. And magic helps.

A few thoughts have occurred to me as I read this thread.
First, the issue of decapitating Wolverine, doesn't Magneto pull all of the adamantium out of him (leaving Bone Claw Wolverine)? At which point he would be just as easy to decapitate as any other highly trained combat specialist (read that: not easy, but eventually do able).
Second, the Blood idea; in Ultimate X-Men, don't the other superheros start injecting themselves with Wolverine's blood, or some derivative there of, much like steroids?
Third, the name deal. Why not name her something really corny/campy like "Die Hard" or "Unstoppable". Then again, there's always pop culture references along the lines of something dealing with the Energizer Bunny. That would, of course, allow for much teasing of Val by Mackenzie.
As it stands, I have been enjoying the comic a great deal. I hope to see it continued, and not abandoned like so many others. Thank you for this.
