The NHL playoffs have begun! I'm geeking out, as per usual, and will become more obnoxious as the postseason progresses. My deepest apologies to hockey fans from other states...but our team rocks. Here's to keeping the cup in Detroit where it belongs.
I'm considering getting a Maltby jersey. He's my favorite.

I didn't normally follow NHL all that much (despite living in another hockey-mecca for years: East Lansing) but followed college hockey vary closely I had season-tickets for MSU hockey for years, but moved away from Lansing just as the team went on to win the NCAA championship. figures. Now, however, I'll have to follow Detroit more closely as they have one of my favorite MSU stars in their Grand Rapids AHL team. I just hope he gets a chance to crack that incredibly talented pool the Red Wings have. Seriously, do they even have ANY mediocre players? Their lineup is like a who's-who of future hall of famers!

I never really follow any of our sports teams until they do something of note.

I don't like team sports. Reason being one guy can slack and force everyone to pick it up then he can take the credit for the glory when they do something big...
I enjoy watching fighting sports because it transcends nationalities. If you are good, it is because YOU are good.

I don't like team sports. Reason being one guy can slack and force everyone to pick it up then he can take the credit for the glory when they do something big... Such glory hogging happens a lot in games like basketball and football but it really doesn't happen so often in hockey. Especially with the wings. They're so cohesive as a team, it's a joke that we should send them out into the football field and win the Lions some games.

They sure have been looking tough! As crazy as the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia series has been getting at times, the Red Wings just look dominant. I have a feeling they're going to repeat, they just don't look weak anywhere.

Depth is the biggest strength of the Wings. Strong contribution from all four lines.
It's 2-0 in the series. I missed Saturday's game, and was QUITE bummed, because it appears that we spanked Columbus thoroughly. I say we sweep.

We won! Sweep sweep sweep! Now it's up to a weekish of rest before Round Two. If Anaheim wins, we play Anaheim. If San Hose wins, we play Vancouver. Can't wait!
PS: Yes, I am THOROUGHLY aware of how sad it is that I am essentially talking to myself in this thread. I assure you, I do not care.

Yeah, and what a game! I can't believe how Detroit kept answering back and just not giving up. Amazing game.

Too scary for me! I like the 4-1 blowouts better. Less nerve-wracking. But oh, that final goal was so sweeeet!

I can understand that view, for me that was an awesome game because it was such a cliff-hanger. I love a hard-fought game that both sides really work, play well, and you really feel like it could go either way. I'm still trying to figure out how the heck they messed up and had too many men on the ice late in the third, that really helped the Wings out, but make no mistake: the Wings earned that goal the same way they earn all of them: swarm the net, work that puck and just keep banging away. I'm always amazed at how Detroit always has guys down in front of the net, pouncing on the rebounds, driving on the goal. Impressive victory, no two ways about it. That was the best Columbus could do, and it still wasn't enough.

So, will the Red Wings sweep Anaheim? I've got a coworker who's got tickets for game #2, the lucky sod.

I don't THINK it will be a sweep. I'm thinking more five or six games. This is going to be a hard series, but its the matchup I was hoping for.
Ducks should be tired from a long series. We're well-rested. Vancouver supposedly has a hot goalie. San Jose was supposedly the team to beat. And now they're beat! So now we don't have to deal with them. If Chicago can beat Vancouver, then we'll only have one long-distance match instead of two, which means less cumulative jet-lag before the finals. Eastern teams don't have to travel so much to get to each other.
Possible downsides... They're all excited after upsetting the top-seeded Sharks. They HAVE beaten us in our last two series. But then, we beat them in the two before that. They're a good team in general.
But we can do it! It's gonna be an exciting series.
...and I'm an even luckier sod. If my mom can manage ticket aquisition through her work, I'll be at Game 1
